Community Pilot Blueprint
For groups ready to move beyond reading and discussion, here is a framework for building small-scale experiments in transition principles within your existing community.
Start small
Begin with a small group — a few families, a neighborhood block, a cooperative. The goal is not to transition the whole community at once but to demonstrate that specific transition principles work in practice. Share resources. Make decisions collaboratively. Track what works and what doesn't.
Build trust slowly
Trust is the foundation of any cooperative arrangement. It cannot be rushed or assumed. Start with low-stakes sharing (tools, skills, meals) and build toward more fundamental cooperation as trust develops naturally.
Document everything
Your experience — successes and failures — is valuable to others who will attempt the same. Keep records. Be honest about what didn't work and why. The transition learns from honest failure more than from exaggerated success.
Interface gracefully
You exist within the current system while experimenting with an alternative. This means maintaining the ability to function within the current economy while building structures that point toward something different. This is not hypocrisy — it is practical necessity during a transitional period.
